Image Optimization for E-Commerce
TinyForge Blog · Image optimization guides
Slow product pages kill conversions. A 1-second delay can reduce conversions by 7%. Images are the biggest lever.
Best practices
- Format: WebP or AVIF for product photos (40–60% smaller than JPEG).
- Size: Serve thumbnails at thumbnail size, not full-res. Use srcset for responsive images.
- Quality: 80–85 is plenty for product photos.
- Lazy loading: Lazy-load below-the-fold product images; eager-load the first 4.
- CDN: Serve from an image CDN (Cloudflare Images, Bunny, Imgix) with auto-format and auto-quality.
- Pre-optimize: Compress before upload to reduce storage and processing time.
