Reduce Image Size Without Losing Quality
TinyForge Blog · Image optimization guides
"Lossless" compression keeps every pixel identical but only saves ~10–20%. "Lossy" compression (quality 80) saves 50–80% with no visible difference. Here's how to get the best of both.
Techniques
- Convert to WebP/AVIF — instant 30–50% savings, often indistinguishable.
- Downscale — a 4000px photo displayed at 800px is wasted bytes. Resize to 1600px.
- Strip metadata — EXIF data can add 50–200 KB. Most compressors strip it.
- Reduce quality to 80 — sweet spot for photos.
- Crop whitespace — remove empty borders.
TinyForge does all of this in your browser — pick quality, dimensions, and format, then download.
